BEIJING (AP) They’re promising cooperation, but the disagreements between President Barack Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao (hoo jihn-tow) are in full view. After their meeting today in Beijing, the Chinese leader spoke against protectionism, a reaction to new U.S. levies on Chinese tires and steel pipes. And Obama called on China to relax controls that help keep China’s currency relatively weak, boosting that country’s exports.

SANFORD, N.C. (AP) The 5-year-old girl whose body was found in North Carolina yesterday has been remembered at a couple of vigils, including one that was attended by the girl’s tearful father. The mother of Shaniya (shuh-NY’-uh) Davis was in court yesterday, hours after the girl’s body was found. She’s charged with human trafficking and child abuse. Police say the young girl was offered for prostitution.
